Joan of Arc was a French peasant girl who fought in the Hundred Years War between England and France. Joan was was called by God to lead to the French troops in the battle of OrleanS. Joan won at Orlean and defeated the English in 4 more battles before she was captured, tried for witchcraft, and burned at the stake.

Joan of Arc was born on January 6, 1412 in a small village of Domremy. She never went to school, but she went to Church often and she had one sister and three brothers. She had a very religous ubringing which led to what inspired her to join the army. Woman weren't aloud to be in the army back in 1400's, so Joan of Arc cut her hair short and pretended she was a boy. The only reason she joined the army was because she saw visions and heard voices. The visions and voices were religious, they were of Saints, and she called them "revelations." in 1429, they instructed her to go to Orleans, and win Orleans back from the English seige. She led the French army to amazing victories over the English in the battle of Orleans. AfterDuring a battle in Compiegne, she slipped away from her soldiers and was captured by Burgundians. They imprisoned her and then brought her into trial. Her trial was for witchcraft and heresy, and lasted from Joanuary to May, 1412. The English wanted her to deny that she encountered these "revelations" and that she was a girl. She then promised after signing a statement that she wouldn't were men clothes. She did. And since this was a violation of Church Rules, she was sentenced to death. Joan of Arc was burned at the stake on May 30, 1431 in the Rouen marketplace when she was 17 years old.
